Safety isn't
a metric.
It's our culture.

An EMR of 0.71 puts McClone in the top decile of construction firms nationally. But the number is the trailing indicator — what produces it is a culture where stopping the work for safety is non-negotiable, every crew, every shift, every pour.

01 The number

Our EMR
in context.

EMR — Experience Modification Rate — is the construction industry's measure of safety performance. 1.0 is industry average. Below 1.0 is better. Below 0.75 is rare.

That puts us in the
top decile of all
construction firms.

The number is built on 1,108 structures with millions of person-hours on jobsites across the western United States. It's verified annually by our insurer and reviewed by every general contractor we work with.

Why does it matter? Because the firms that get the hard pours — the hospitals, the high-rises, the sites with people working around them — are the firms whose safety record is unimpeachable.

02 The programs

What runs
underneath the number.

An EMR doesn't move on its own. It's the output of a stack of programs, training, and habits we've built and refined over 50 years. Here's what's running.

Daily pre-task
safety briefings

Every crew, every shift, before the first pour. The lead walks the work, identifies hazards, and confirms PPE. Documented. Reviewed weekly by safety officers.

OSHA 30-hour
certification

Every supervisor holds OSHA 30. Every crew member at minimum OSHA 10. We train above the legal floor — that's how floors stay floors and not ceilings.

Stop-work
authority

Any crew member, any time, any reason — calls a stop, work stops. Period. Investigated together, restarted only when resolved. The most important rule we have.

Lift-plan
engineering

Every formwork lift over a threshold has a pre-engineered lift plan. Reviewed by the formwork engineer, the GC, and the crew before mobilization.

Job-site
walk-downs

Daily by site safety officers. Weekly by regional safety directors. Quarterly by corporate. Issues escalated to project managers within the same day.

Crew injury
response plan

Site-specific incident response. EMS routing pre-mapped. First-aid trained crew on every shift. Critical incident protocols rehearsed quarterly.

03 Recognition

Verified third-party
and audited.

We don't grade our own paper. McClone's safety performance is verified annually by independent auditors and recognized by the national construction associations.
